Orlando, FL – St. Augustine may be known as the nations’ oldest city, but Pensacola is the first. It’s a friendly rivalry between the two cities located on the opposite side of the state. Florida Road Trip's final stop in Season 10 is in Pensacola where we explore the historical distinction of these two cities. Plus, Pensacola is known as the cradle of naval aviation and continues to honor its military ties. Military stories featured include the National Naval Aviation Museum, the Blue Angels, and Veterans Memorial Park of Pensacola.
“Something that’s fascinating with Pensacola’s history is much of it is still preserved just below the streets and in the bay itself,” said Jennifer Cook, Executive Director of WUCF. “Archeologists continue to uncover pieces of the city’s history and this episode shares some of those discovered stories. It’s a great place to wrap up Season 10."
Viewers will also learn about the history of Pensacola Lighthouse and Gulf Islands National Seashore. Additional stories on the Historic Pensacola Village and the city’s Mardi Gras are available online.
