Dr. MJ Soileau: Pioneering Innovations and Building a Lasting Legacy at UCF’s CREOL

Email share

I’m an alum of UCF (Go Knights, Charge On!), so I’ve known about CREOL since my time as a student. What I don’t think I realized is how it’s known worldwide the program is. CREOL stands for the Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers and it was named by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best optics program worldwide due to its research and innovation. The founding director of the program is Dr. MJ Soileau. The Florida Road Trip team went to meet him on the UCF campus and as he walked to halls, you felt you were in the presence of a celebrity. Everyone who passed, said hi to MJ and you could feel the admiration. His legacy can be seen in the vision of the program he helped to grow and in the innovation he is responsible for that led to several U.S. patents.
