You can walk between the Florida A&M and FSU campuses in less than ten minutes. But they have more than geographical proximity in common. Both universities were home to legendary football coaches. At FSU, Bobby Bowden was the Head Football Coach from 1976 to 2009. During his time, he coached more than 500 games and won more than 300. He is the only NCAA coach to win 11 consecutive bowl games. At FAMU, Jake Gaither was the Head Football Coach from 1945 to 1969. During his time, he recorded 203 wins, 36 losses and four ties for a winning percentage of .844. That was the highest winning percentage of any college coach at that time. Forty-two of his student athletes continued their football careers in the NFL.
